Hey friends,

Well..we're off and running.  I named the blog "chi fidelity" after CHIcago where my friends Matt & Holly and I fell in love with vinyl, hunting through local shops (shout out to Kiss the Sky), and the latter half of the movie high FIDELITY, probably the most famous film to deal with vinyl records.

So here's how it works.

We all post our "wish lists" at different levels.  For example, both Counting Crows August and Everything After and Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska are on my list.  However, I would pay $45 for C.C., but only $10 for Bruce, because it's pretty common.

If you find a record on someone else's list, pick it up and mail it to them.  They will send you $$ for the record, plus shipping.  And no worries, I know everyone on here very well...everyone is trustworthy :)

Matt, Holly, and I are hitting 6-8 record shops next Saturday.  I'll blog about it later, and post some pics of some of the coolest vinyl shops in Chicago.

For now, why don't you post a brief (one paragraph) summary of who you are, what you do, and what a couple of your favorite records are.

So, I'm Seth "tower" Hurd.  My first record purchase was at a used book shop in Wrigleyville (just down the street from the McDonalds, if you're from here).  I bought John Denver, Johnny Cash, Robert Frost reads his poetry for about $12.  After that, I was hooked!

My favorite record is Bruce Springsteen Live 1975-1985, which is a 5-LP set.

My favorite vinyl buying moment was when my friend Brew went to get the new Coldplay LP at Best Buy.

16 year old Cashier: "What's this"

Brew: "It's a record."

Cashier: "Like a poster."

Brew: "No, like a big flat, black mp3."

In closing, thanks for being my friend, and thanks for really loving music.  Not just buying CD's or listening to your iPod, or even listening to records, but for loving the great songs and albums for what they really are...slices of the times, glimpses into the soul, the stories humanity wrapped around chords and lyrics.
